Watch Logic directly on YouTube (Spanish)An introduction to the topic
An argument can sound persuasive without its conclusion following from its reasons. Logic offers tools for examining that relationship. In a deductively valid inference, it is impossible for the premises to be true and the conclusion false. The premises are the starting claims; the conclusion is what follows from them. For example: “All trees are plants; an oak is a tree; therefore, an oak is a plant.” This allows us to separate two tasks: examining the form of the reasoning and checking the starting claims. The proposed reading develops this distinction at a more technical level; you can consult it in sections after the video.
