What does it mean for something to be real? Metaphysics brings together questions about existence, causality, time and identity. Asking how a person changes while remaining the same lets us recognise these problems without starting from an abstract definition. Its answers are contested, as are its limits: exploring this field requires us to distinguish a philosophical question from a claim that still needs arguments. The further reading offers a map of these problems and how they have changed throughout history.
